Cancellation and Refund Policy

This Cancellation and Refund Policy applies to paid subscriptions for the AI Science Tutor supplied by Mr Mark Scates, a sole trader trading as Online Science Tuition.
It should be read together with the AI Science Tutor Terms and Conditions. Nothing in this Policy limits any statutory consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
At a glance
• The subscription costs £9.99 per month and renews automatically each month until cancelled.
• You can cancel an ordinary monthly subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal. There is no cancellation fee.
• Ordinary cancellation stops future renewals. Access continues until the end of the monthly period already paid for.
• After the applicable statutory cancellation period has expired, payments are normally non-refundable merely because you change your mind, do not use the Tutor, forget to cancel, or no longer want the service.
• UK consumers normally have a 14-day statutory cancellation period for an online service contract. Because access is intended to start immediately, we ask the customer to expressly request that the service begins during that period.
• If a UK consumer uses the statutory cancellation right after the service has begun at their express request, we may deduct or require a proportionate amount for the service supplied up to the time we are told of the cancellation, where the law permits.
• Refunds will still be provided where required by law, including where an applicable statutory remedy arises because the service has not been supplied as agreed or with the standard required by law.
1. Monthly subscription and automatic renewal
1.1 Paid access to the AI Science Tutor costs £9.99 per month, charged in pounds sterling (GBP), unless a different price is clearly displayed and accepted before purchase.
1.2 The subscription automatically renews each month using the payment method held for the subscription until it is cancelled.
1.3 There is no fixed minimum subscription term beyond the monthly period already paid for.
2. Ordinary cancellation of future renewals
2.1 You may cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe billing portal available from your AI Science Tutor account. There is no cancellation fee.
2.2 Ordinary cancellation prevents the next renewal and future subscription charges, provided cancellation is completed before the next renewal payment is processed.
2.3 Unless a statutory cancellation right or other legal remedy applies, cancelling an ordinary monthly renewal does not end access immediately. Access continues until the end of the paid billing period and then ends automatically.
2.4 If you have difficulty using the Stripe billing portal, contact us using the details in section 9 as soon as possible and, where possible, before the next renewal date.
3. UK 14-day statutory cancellation right
3.1 If you are a UK consumer who enters into the subscription online, you will normally have a legal right to cancel the service contract during a 14-day cancellation period. The period ends 14 days after the day on which the subscription contract is entered into.
3.2 You do not need to give a reason for exercising this statutory cancellation right.
3.3 To exercise the statutory cancellation right, you must tell us clearly that you wish to cancel the contract. You can do this by email using the contact details in section 9. You may also use the model cancellation form included in the AI Science Tutor Terms and Conditions, but you do not have to use that form.
3.4 Simply turning off future renewal in the Stripe billing portal is treated as ordinary cancellation under section 2. If you are within an applicable statutory cancellation period and want to exercise the statutory cooling-off right and request any refund due under that right, please send us a clear statement that you are exercising your statutory right to cancel.
4. Immediate access during the 14-day period
4.1 The AI Science Tutor is intended to become available as soon as payment is confirmed. During the subscription process, we will ask the customer to expressly request that supply of the service begins during the 14-day statutory cancellation period.
4.2 If the service begins during the cancellation period following the customer’s express request and the customer later exercises the statutory cancellation right, the customer may be required to pay a proportionate amount for the service supplied up to the time we are informed of the cancellation, where the law permits.
4.3 Any proportionate amount will be calculated fairly by reference to what has been supplied compared with the full monthly service covered by the subscription price.
4.4 If the law does not permit us to make a deduction, including because a required pre-contract information or express-request requirement was not satisfied, we will not make that deduction.
5. Refunds after the statutory cancellation period
5.1 Except where required by law or expressly stated in this Policy or the AI Science Tutor Terms and Conditions, subscription payments are non-refundable once the relevant statutory cancellation period has expired.
5.2 We do not normally provide a refund merely because a user changes their mind, does not use the AI Science Tutor, uses it less than expected, forgets to cancel before renewal, or decides that they no longer require access.
5.3 Cancelling during an ordinary paid monthly period does not normally generate a partial refund for the unused days in that period. Instead, access continues until the end of the period already paid for.
5.4 This does not affect any statutory right to a repeat performance, price reduction, refund or other remedy that may apply if the service has not been supplied as agreed or with the standard required by law.
6. Service discontinuation and account action
6.1 If we permanently discontinue a paid account or the AI Science Tutor during a prepaid period for reasons not caused by the customer’s breach of the Terms and Conditions, we will provide an appropriate refund for any paid period that we do not provide, unless another equivalent remedy is agreed.
6.2 If paid access is terminated because of a serious or repeated material breach of the AI Science Tutor Terms and Conditions, unlawful use, fraud, or persistent attempts to defeat safety, security or fair-use protections, we do not normally refund the unused part of the current billing period, except where the law requires otherwise.
6.3 Temporary maintenance, short outages, reasonable safety restrictions, fair-use limits or a short third-party service interruption do not automatically create a right to a refund. Any statutory rights remain unaffected.
7. Failed, reversed or disputed payments
7.1 If a subscription payment fails, is reversed, is charged back or is disputed, access may be restricted or suspended while the payment status is resolved.
7.2 A payment dispute or chargeback does not itself create an additional contractual refund entitlement. This does not affect any rights a customer has under payment-services law, card-scheme rules or consumer law.
8. Complimentary access and customers outside the UK
8.1 Complimentary or manually granted access is not a paid subscription. Because no subscription payment has been made for that access, there is normally no payment to refund.
8.2 Customers outside the United Kingdom may have mandatory cancellation, cooling-off or refund rights under the law that applies where they live. Nothing in this Policy removes a right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8.3 We operate from England and do not specifically market the AI Science Tutor to every country from which the website may be found or accessed.
9. How refunds are paid and how to contact us
9.1 Where a refund is due, we will make it within the period required by applicable law and normally through the same payment method used for the original transaction, unless another method is lawfully agreed.
9.2 After we issue a refund through Stripe, the time taken for the money to appear in the customer’s account may depend on the customer’s bank, card issuer or payment provider.

10. Changes to this Policy
10.1 We may update this Policy to reflect changes in the AI Science Tutor, our subscription arrangements or applicable law.
10.2 The latest version will be published on the website with an updated version number or date.
10.3 This Policy will be reviewed before the forthcoming UK subscription-contract regime takes effect, so that any additional statutory cancellation, renewal-reminder or refund requirements can be incorporated when they become applicable.
