Terms and Conditions

Who these Terms are with
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between the customer and Mr Mark Scates, a sole trader trading as Online Science Tuition, Rainham, Essex, United Kingdom (“Online Science Tuition”, “we”, “us” or “our”), governing access to and use of the AI Science Tutor.
Please read these Terms before subscribing to or using the AI Science Tutor. They apply only to the AI Science Tutor service. They do not govern private one-to-one tuition or separate Science Worksheets products.
Key subscription information
Price £9.99 per month, charged in pounds sterling (GBP).
Renewal Automatically renews monthly until cancelled.
Minimum term None beyond the current paid monthly billing period.
Cancellation Cancel through the Stripe billing portal. Access continues until the end of the paid billing period.
Cooling-off right UK consumers normally have a 14-day statutory cancellation period. See section 7.
Who contracts A subscriber must be 18 or over. A parent or legal guardian must contract for any user under 18.
Account use One subscription is for one designated student. Account sharing is not permitted.
1. About these Terms
1.1 These Terms apply when a consumer creates, subscribes to, pays for, or uses the AI Science Tutor available through onlinesciencetuition.co.uk.
1.2 The AI Science Tutor is an online educational service designed to support school science learning through explanations, practice, testing, question support and related educational features.
1.3 These Terms, together with the information shown at checkout and any terms that the law treats as binding, form the contract between you and us for the AI Science Tutor.
1.4 The contract is in English. You should save or print a copy of these Terms for your records.
1.5 Nothing in these Terms limits any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
2. Who may subscribe and who may use the Tutor
2.1 The person entering into a paid subscription must be at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to enter into the contract.
2.2 If the person who will use the AI Science Tutor is under 18, the subscription must be entered into by that user’s parent or legal guardian. The parent or legal guardian is the customer for the purposes of the paid contract and is responsible for the account and the under-18 user’s compliance with these Terms.
2.3 A parent or legal guardian may supervise or assist the student user, but each subscription is for one designated student only. It may not be shared between siblings, friends, pupils or other people.
2.4 The AI Science Tutor is offered as a consumer educational service. Schools, companies or other organisations wishing to arrange multi-user or institutional access must contact us separately.
3. Registration, verification and account security
3.1 An account must be registered and the email address must be verified before paid access can be activated.
3.2 Registration information must be accurate and kept reasonably up to date. You are responsible for maintaining access to the registered email address.
3.3 Login details must be kept confidential. You must not sell, transfer, lend or share an account. You should tell us promptly if you believe an account has been accessed without permission.
3.4 We may require reasonable verification steps to protect an account, prevent fraud, enforce access rules or keep the service secure.
4. Technical requirements
4.1 Use of the service requires an internet connection and a reasonably current web browser. JavaScript, cookies or similar strictly necessary technologies may be required for login, security, account functions and service operation.
4.2 You are responsible for your own device, internet connection and any charges imposed by your internet, mobile, card or currency-conversion provider.
4.3 We may set reasonable technical limits on uploads, file types, file sizes, page counts or other features. Current limits may be displayed within the Tutor and may be changed where reasonably necessary for security, reliability or service operation.
5. Subscription price and payment
5.1 Paid access costs £9.99 per month. The price shown at checkout is the total amount we charge for that monthly subscription, unless a different price is clearly displayed and accepted before purchase.
5.2 Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not require customers to provide card details directly to us. Stripe’s own terms and privacy information may also apply to its payment services.
5.3 The subscription automatically renews each month and the applicable monthly charge is taken using the payment method held for the subscription, unless the subscription has been cancelled before renewal.
5.4 There is no fixed minimum subscription term beyond the monthly period already paid for.
5.5 Paid access normally begins as soon as Stripe confirms successful payment and our system activates the subscription. A short processing delay may occasionally occur while payment confirmation is completed.
5.6 If a payment fails, is reversed or is disputed, access may be restricted or suspended while the payment status is resolved. You remain responsible for any amount properly due under the contract.
5.7 Your bank or payment provider may impose its own foreign-exchange or other charges. Those charges are not imposed by us and are not included in the £9.99 subscription price.
6. Automatic renewal and ordinary cancellation
6.1 The subscription renews automatically every month until cancelled.
6.2 You may cancel at any time through the Stripe billing portal available from your account. There is no cancellation fee.
6.3 Ordinary cancellation stops future renewals. Unless a statutory cancellation right or other legal remedy applies, access continues until the end of the monthly period already paid for and the subscription then ends.
6.4 To avoid the next monthly charge, cancellation should be completed before the next renewal payment is processed.
6.5 If you have difficulty using the billing portal, contact us using the details in section 23 before the renewal date where possible.
7. UK 14-day cancellation right and immediate start of the service
7.1 If you are a UK consumer entering into the subscription online, you will normally have a legal right to cancel the contract during the 14-day cancellation period. The period ends 14 days after the day on which the subscription contract is entered into.
7.2 Because the AI Science Tutor is intended to become available immediately, we will ask you during the subscription process to expressly request that supply of the service begins during the 14-day cancellation period.
7.3 If you exercise the statutory cancellation right after the service has begun at your express request, we may deduct or require payment of a proportionate amount for the service supplied up to the time you tell us you are cancelling, where the law permits us to do so.
7.4 To exercise the statutory cancellation right, you may send us any clear statement saying that you wish to cancel. You may use the model cancellation form in Schedule 1, but you do not have to use that form.
7.5 Where a statutory refund is due following cancellation, we will make it within the period required by law and normally using the same means of payment used for the original transaction, unless otherwise agreed.
7.6 Customers outside the UK may have cancellation or cooling-off rights under mandatory laws applying where they live. Nothing in these Terms removes any such right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
8. Refunds
8.1 Except where required by law or expressly stated in these Terms, subscription payments are non-refundable once the relevant statutory cancellation period has expired.
8.2 We do not normally provide a refund merely because a user changes their mind, does not use the service, forgets to cancel before renewal, or decides they no longer require access.
8.3 This does not affect rights or remedies that apply where the service has not been supplied as agreed, has not been provided with the standard required by law, or where another statutory refund right applies.
8.4 If we permanently discontinue a paid account or the service during a prepaid period for reasons not caused by your breach of these Terms, we will provide an appropriate refund for any paid period that we do not provide, unless another equivalent remedy is agreed.
9. Complimentary and promotional access
9.1 We may grant complimentary, promotional or manually approved access to selected users, including existing tuition students, at our discretion.
9.2 Complimentary access is not a paid subscription and does not create an entitlement to continued free access for any minimum period unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing.
9.3 We may withdraw or change complimentary access on reasonable notice, or immediately where required for safety, security, misuse or a serious breach of these Terms.
9.4 Complimentary users are subject to the same account, fair-use, acceptable-use and safety requirements as paid users unless we state otherwise.
10. Fair Use Policy
10.1 The subscription is designed for normal individual educational use by one student. To keep the service reliable, secure and reasonably available, each account is subject to fair-use controls.
10.2 Current account limits are:
• a minimum of 3 seconds between accepted Tutor requests;
• no more than 6 accepted Tutor requests in any rolling 60-second period;
• no more than 40 accepted Tutor requests in any rolling 60-minute period;
• no more than 150 accepted Tutor requests in any rolling 24-hour period; and
• only one active Tutor request from the account at a time.
10.3 These limits are maximum fair-use limits, not a promise that a particular number of requests will always be available. Temporary service-wide, technical, safety, security or third-party capacity restrictions may also apply.
10.4 You must not use bots, scripts, automated tools, scraping, repeated automated submissions or other methods intended to generate bulk requests or circumvent technical limits.
10.5 You must not attempt to evade a limit by sharing accounts, creating multiple accounts for the same user, manipulating requests, interfering with technical controls or using another method designed to defeat the fair-use system.
10.6 We may change fair-use limits where reasonably necessary to protect security, reliability, service capacity or sustainable operation. Where a change is material and is not urgently required for security or abuse prevention, we will aim to give reasonable notice.
11. Acceptable use and safety
11.1 The AI Science Tutor is provided for legitimate educational use. You must use it lawfully and responsibly.
11.2 You must not:
• attempt to bypass, disable, probe or defeat safety, moderation, security, access-control, copyright-protection or rate-limit measures;
• use the service to create, request, transmit or facilitate unlawful, seriously harmful, abusive or malicious content;
• introduce malware, executable content, malicious files or other material intended to damage or interfere with the service;
• reverse engineer, scrape, harvest, systematically extract or reproduce the service, its prompts, security mechanisms, software or protected content except to the extent a right cannot lawfully be excluded;
• impersonate another person, misrepresent authority over another account, or seek private account or security information relating to another user; or
• use the service for commercial resale, shared tuition provision, bulk content generation for third parties or operation of a competing automated service without our written permission.
11.3 The Tutor may refuse, limit or redirect requests where its safety or scope controls identify content as unsuitable, unsafe, outside the intended educational purpose or potentially abusive. Automated safeguards can sometimes be cautious or make mistakes.
11.4 Users remain responsible for complying with any rules that apply to their school, coursework, assessment or examination. The availability of a Tutor feature does not mean that its use is permitted in every academic setting.
12. AI-generated content and educational limitations
12.1 The AI Science Tutor is an educational aid. It is not a substitute for a qualified teacher, an examination board, official course materials or professional advice.
12.2 Artificial intelligence can make mistakes. Responses may be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, ambiguous or unsuitable for a particular task even where they appear confident or well written.
12.3 We use reasonable care in operating the service, but we do not promise that every AI-generated answer will be correct or that every request will receive an answer. Important educational information should be checked against appropriate course materials, a teacher or the relevant examination-board specification where necessary.
12.4 We do not guarantee any particular examination grade, test result, academic improvement, admission outcome or other educational result.
12.5 The Tutor must not be relied on for personal medical diagnosis or treatment, legal advice, emergency assistance, financial advice or other regulated or professional services. Appropriate professional or emergency services should be used where required.
12.6 AI-generated responses may not be unique. Other users may receive identical or similar material.
13. Uploads and material supplied by users
13.1 The Tutor may allow users to submit text, images, PDFs or other supported materials. You are responsible for the material you choose to submit.
13.2 You must have the right or permission to submit material to the service, or your use of it must otherwise be permitted by law. You must not knowingly upload material that infringes another person’s intellectual-property, privacy or other rights.
13.3 You grant us a limited, non-exclusive permission to receive, host, process and transmit submitted material only to the extent reasonably necessary to provide, secure and administer the AI Science Tutor and comply with law. How personal information is handled is explained in our Privacy Notice.
13.4 Certain protected, unsafe, unusually large, technically unsupported or active-content files may be rejected. Technical acceptance of a file does not mean that we endorse it or that you have a legal right to use it.
13.5 You should not submit passwords, payment-card details, government identification numbers or other information that is unnecessary for a science-learning request.
14. Intellectual property
14.1 The website, AI Science Tutor software, interface, branding, diagrams, original educational materials, databases and other content supplied by us are owned by us or used under licence and are protected by intellectual-property laws where applicable.
14.2 A subscription gives the designated student a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the AI Science Tutor for non-commercial educational purposes while access is active. It does not transfer ownership of our intellectual property.
14.3 You may use AI-generated responses for the designated student’s personal, non-commercial educational purposes. We do not promise that AI-generated material is unique, that copyright subsists in it, or that it will be free of all third-party rights.
14.4 You must not reproduce, sell, license, publish as your own commercial product, systematically extract or create a competing database or service from our protected website content, diagrams, software or educational materials without permission, except where the law gives you a right that cannot be restricted by these Terms.
14.5 The Tutor may contain technical controls that prevent or restrict processing of particular proprietary materials. You must not attempt to circumvent those controls.
15. Availability, maintenance and changes to the service
15.1 We aim to make the service available reliably but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free access. Maintenance, updates, internet failures, hosting problems, AI-provider outages, security incidents or other technical events can temporarily affect availability.
15.2 We may update, improve, replace or remove features where reasonably necessary to maintain, secure or develop the service. We will not deliberately remove the core paid service during a paid period without an appropriate reason or remedy.
15.3 We may temporarily restrict the service where necessary to protect users, investigate misuse, comply with law, address a security risk or respond to a third-party service failure.
16. Suspension and termination
16.1 We may temporarily suspend or restrict an account where we reasonably believe this is necessary because of a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, non-payment, account compromise, fraud, unlawful use, attempts to circumvent safety/security controls, or a material risk to the service or other users.
16.2 Where appropriate, we may ask the customer to explain or remedy a problem before restoring access. Immediate action may be taken where reasonably necessary for security, safety or legal compliance.
16.3 We may terminate an account for a serious breach, repeated material breaches after warning, fraud, unlawful use or persistent attempts to defeat security, safety or fair-use protections.
16.4 If paid access is terminated because of the customer’s material breach, we do not normally refund the unused portion of the current billing period, except where the law requires otherwise. If we terminate paid access for reasons not caused by your breach and do not provide the remaining service, section 8.4 applies.
16.5 Termination does not affect rights, liabilities or obligations that arose before termination.
17. Price changes
17.1 We may change the subscription price in the future. A price change will not retrospectively alter a billing period that has already been paid for.
17.2 For an existing paid subscriber, we will give reasonable advance notice of a material price increase, normally at least 30 days where practicable, and explain when the new price will apply.
17.3 You may cancel before the first renewal charged at the new price if you do not wish to continue.
18. Our responsibility to consumers
18.1 We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen or, when the contract was made, both you and we knew it might happen.
18.2 The service is supplied for personal educational use. We are not responsible for business losses such as loss of profit, revenue, business opportunity or business interruption arising from use of a consumer account.
18.3 We are not responsible for failures caused by your device, your internet connection, your payment provider, or another independent service outside our reasonable control, although this does not affect any responsibility we have under law for services that we choose and control as part of supplying the AI Science Tutor.
18.4 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any statutory consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted.
19. Privacy and personal information
19.1 We process personal information in connection with account registration, verification, subscriptions, service operation, security and use of the AI Science Tutor.
19.2 Our Privacy Notice explains what personal information we collect, why we use it, the lawful bases relied upon, who receives it, retention, international transfers where relevant, and data-protection rights.
19.3 The Privacy Notice forms part of the information provided about the service but is not intended to reduce any rights under these Terms or data-protection law.
20. Communications and notices
20.1 We may send service, billing, security, legal or account communications to the email address registered to the account. You should keep that address current and check messages relating to the subscription.
20.2 Where the law requires information to be provided on a durable medium, we may provide it by email or another method that allows the customer to store it for future reference.
21. International users
21.1 We operate from England and do not specifically market the AI Science Tutor to every country in which the website may be found or accessed.
21.2 If you access or purchase the service from outside the United Kingdom, you are responsible for ensuring that use of the service is lawful in your location.
21.3 These Terms do not deprive a consumer living outside the United Kingdom of mandatory consumer protections that apply to them and cannot lawfully be excluded by choosing English law.
21.4 We may restrict new subscriptions or access in a country or territory where reasonably necessary for legal, regulatory, sanctions, payment, security or service-availability reasons.
22. General legal terms
22.1 We may transfer our rights and obligations under this contract to another person or business where this does not reduce your rights. We will tell you if a transfer materially affects you.
22.2 You may not transfer a subscription or account to another person without our written agreement.
22.3 If any provision of these Terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply.
22.4 If we do not enforce a provision immediately, that does not mean we have waived the right to enforce it later.
22.5 No person other than the customer and us has a right to enforce these Terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999, except where the law provides otherwise.
22.6 We may update these Terms to reflect changes in law, regulation, the service, security requirements or business arrangements. Changes will apply prospectively. Where a change materially affects an existing paid subscription, we will give reasonable notice unless an immediate change is required by law, security or safety.
23. Governing law, complaints and contact details
23.1 These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you continue to benefit from any mandatory protections of the law of your country of residence that cannot lawfully be excluded.
23.2 If you are a consumer resident in England or Wales, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may bring proceedings in the courts where you live. Consumers living outside the UK may also have rights to bring proceedings in their home courts under mandatory local law.
23.3 If you have a complaint, cancellation request or question about the service, please contact us. We will try to resolve the matter reasonably and promptly.
